Part-time Janitor/Custodian

  • Job Title: Gallery Assistant/ Receptionist
    Location: Saginaw, MI
    Reports to: President & CEO
    FLSA Status: Non-exempt

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum (MMCM) is seeking an independent, dedicated, and detail-oriented Gallery Assistant/Receptionist who possesses a passion for and commitment to enriching the lives of children and families through play at our museum.

    The Gallery Assistant/Receptionist reports to the President & CEO. This person will assist in the day-to-day operations. This person will follow established practices and procedures that promote health, safety, and security of the environment. This person should be able to demonstrate the ability to bend and lift up to 50lbs.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provides administrative support to the organization including, but not limited to:

    • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and/or scrubbing them
    • Gather and empty trash
    • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
    • Clean and sanitize individual gallery elements using child-safe products
    • Follow procedures for the use of cleaners and equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
    • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks
    • Clear debris from grounds
    • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
    • Remove snow from sidewalks using snow shovels and spread ice-melting elements
    • Repair minor issues throughout the facility

    Other Essential Support:

    • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work practices, and instructions
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Physical Demands:

    • Requires standing for periods of time
    • Move, bend, lift up to 50 lbs.
    • This person should be able to demonstrate the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    • Experience and/or education equivalent to position requirements
    • Ability to work among children and caregivers
    • Demonstrate a friendly, helpful attitude

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Passion for supporting MMCM’s mission to provide a “Play and Learn” environment for children and their caregivers
    • Requires scheduling flexibility for nights and/or early mornings and weekends

    This position is offering hourly compensation commensurate with experience at an average of 15-20 hours per week. The Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum offers flexible scheduling and paid-time off. Interested applicants should complete our online employment application.

    The Janitor/Custodian reports to the President & CEO. This person will assist the Facilities Manager in the day-to-day maintenance of the building.  This person will follow established practices and procedures.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provides administrative support to the organization including, but not limited to:

    • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and/or scrubbing them
    • Gather and empty trash
    • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors
    • Clean and sanitize individual gallery elements using child-safe products
    • Follow procedures for the use of cleaners and equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
    • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks as needed
    • Clear debris from grounds as needed
    • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
    • Repair minor issues throughout the facility as needed
    • Be able to lift 50 lbs minimum, walk, bend and be able to stand for periods of time
    • Perform other duties as assigned
