Job Title: Receptionist/Gallery Assistant

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum (MMCM) is seeking a friendly, enthusiastic, courteous and professional Receptionist/Gallery Assistant who will work with staff and volunteers to provide an exceptional experience for guests. This position is part-time with varying shifts during museum hours as well as evening hours for special events.
The Receptionist/Gallery Assistant reports to the President & CEO. This person will assist in the day-to-day operations. In addition, this person will assist in setting up room arrangements for meetings and events as needed. This person will follow established practices and procedures that promote health, safety, and security of the environment. This person should be able to demonstrate the ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides Receptionist support to the organization including, but not limited to:
- Process admission, membership, gift shop, etc. sales
- Answer incoming calls on multi-line telephone
- Answer guest questions
- Schedule birthday parties, field trips, building rentals and meetings
- Filing and record keeping
- Create and update documents/data entry
- Update MMCM web calendar
- Prepare birthday party rooms
- Conduct monthly inventory counts of food and drink as requested
- Email confirmation letters for field trips, room rentals and birthday parties
- Learn and practice opening and closing, safety, and security procedures
- Learn and communicate information about MMCM memberships, parties, programs, camps and monthly events
- Demonstrate knowledge of MMCM gallery exhibits
- Provide tours as requested
Provides Gallery Assistant support to the organization including, but not limited to:
- Work with MMCM staff and volunteers to deliver age appropriate educational play and art programming
- Assist with visitor needs in the galleries and classrooms
- Provide a safe and hospitable environment for guests
- Maintain a clean and sanitary environment using approved cleaning products and practices
- Monitor guest safety and report necessary facility and exhibit repairs
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work practices, and instructions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Demands:
- Requires sitting or standing for periods of time
- This person should be able to demonstrate the ability to lift at least 10 lbs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience and/or education equivalent to position requirements
- Cash handling experience
- Ability to communicate clearly in-person and in writing
- Self-motivated with an ability to complete tasks without supervision
- Excellent attention to detail
- Comfort with Microsoft Office programs, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel
- Creative and playful
- Demonstrate a friendly, helpful attitude
- Ability to work among children and caregivers
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Passion for supporting MMCM’s mission to provide a “Play and Learn” environment for children and their caregivers
- Requires scheduling flexibility with some evenings and weekends
This position is offering hourly compensation commensurate with experience at an average of 15-20 hours per week. The Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum offers flexible scheduling and paid-time off. Interested applicants should complete our online employment application.
